A Reminder that the Alternative Formal 2008 is next Monday!
While tickets can be purchased on the night, it is preferable that they are purchased in advance at the society social this wednesday. This is so we can make sure we have the right amount of food etc. available!
Also, although 'alternative' Formal attire is requested, it isn't mandatory.
There will be a pre-meeting in Speak Easy at around 8pm for those wanting someone to wander down to the Canal House with.
See you then.
Next Thursday (the 29th of May) will see the final Clifton Crusade of the 07-08 uni year take place. For you city folk we will be meeting in the Speak Easy at 7pm to get the quarter past 7 bus to get to Clifton. As always buses will be running throughout the night to get you back to the city. So come along and enjoy the cheap drinks at Bar Footsie.
And remember bring your friends, bring your enemies, bring your mum!
The final merchandise order of this academic year has been completed now, so if you ordered something come along to the social to pay for it and pick it up!
Check the forum for confirmation of the orders that we have received if you have forgotten!
We have (finally) had confirmation that we have a mini bus sorted for our mini trip to the Wendy House Tomorrow (sorry for the late notice).
We will be going along to see our very own resident Assault DJ, Spike, do his thing and to have fun at what has proven to be a very entertaining night out.
There aren't any places left for this, but check the forum thread for last minute drop outs, and confirmation of who is going.
Pickup will be at 7.45pm outside the glo bar.
We aim to leave at 7.50pm so be prompt!

At Assault this week, we'll be doing a bit of a promo night for Illuminatus who are releasing their album "The Wrath of The Lambs" on Monday 19th May.
Come along for a chance to hear some of the new tracks and win a copy of the new album!
There's also going to be an Album Launch Party at Junktion7 on Saturday 10th May.
It's £5 advance and tickets for this event can be purchased here or Call 08700 600 100

If you missed the announcements last night, there'll be a general meeting next Wednesday to decide whether or not to elect an Assault officer. This will be a new committee position with the responsibility for the smooth running of Assault.
If it is decided to create this position then nominations will open for one week before holding an election on May 14th.

For those of you who don't know, it has become a sort of tradition for the RockSoc to hold an Alternative Formal at the end of the year.
This is the event where the current committee hands over all responsibilities to the new committee. It's also where we give awards to members who've made a 'special' contribution to the society over the year.
This year it will be held at the Canal House on June 9th between 9pm and 1am. Tickets are £5 and will be available from committee members from tonight (30th April) onwards.
We'll need to know if you're graduating and any dietary requirements you may have so keep this in mind if you're buying tickets for friends.
A buffet is included in the ticket price.
'Alternative' Formal attire is requested.
I've started to add some info to the This Week section about upcoming events of interest, just in case we forget to update it promptly enough during the busy coursework and exam periods.
I hope you bloody well appreciate it. :P
Sheffield Corporation, Saturday May 3rd
We'll be going to Sheffield again this term on Saturday May 3rd. Come sign up at the social, and perhaps assault if there are still places available. Both Michelle and I will be taking money for it.
Its BLATES going to sell out quickly so your name will only go down once you've paid (49 places).
Its only going to be £2.50 for the coach this time, and Ben has sorted out the same price for entry again (£1 w/card)
Leaving the glo bar at 8pm and getting the coach back at 2.30am. Splendid.

Thanks to Stripe for this offer.
A reminder that Cuntstuck '08 takes place this weekend at Speak Easy.
I believe tickets can be purchased by contacting the myspace site: http://www.myspace.com/cuntstockfestival
"Tickets are only £6 for the day, or £10 for both days. For 25 bands, proper cheap ale and bbq that's a bargain in my eyes. Now then you CAN pay on the door on the day, but with it being only a 200 capacity venue your best bet is to pay in advance to save dissapointment. Not that it's going to be some massive sell-out, but just incase like. We're also setting up a way of getting them from us online for you out-of-towners.
Now this is all for charity so just see it as your good deed of the year!"
Check out the website for more information.
More events have been posted in the 'This week' section for anyone returning to Nottingham with a bit of cash spare.
Again, a little more info of local nights running over the easter holidays:
If your into Industrial Dance, EBM, Hard Dance or similar, you might want to check out Genotype @ Bunkers Hill this Saturday.
For those that are still in Nottingham over the Easter Holidays there is a bit of gig information in the "This Week" Section.
I can't be arsed to repeat it all, so have a look in there! :P

There is an "Easter Theme" for the fancy dress (eggs, fluffy bunnys, zombies etc) but anything is fine if you want to dress up.
Allan reports that the order for clothing has been completed, and so we should have these by the social on Wednesday 6th February.
So if you ordered some Rock Soc Clothing or would like an Assault Tshirt come and collect your stuff!

In other news...
As there are only two Fridays in March there won't be an Assault (sad noise), but there will be something else (happy noise)! Maybe another AvPvL or something, we need to work it out.
We're also planning on holding mini trips which will take place sporadically throughout the term. So far suggestions for a mini trip include; The Marshall factory, Brackenhurst pubs, J-Rock night in Sheffield and many many more. All suggestions are welcome as we are an equal opportunities organisation.
As always, we'll be holding our weekly meeting in the Speak Easy on Wednesday nights from 5.
That's it.

Attention Rock Soc the first Clifton Crusade of 2008 is soon to be upon us. On the 31st of January we will again invade The Point on Clifton Campus in the name of all things Rock. We will be meeting at the usual time of 7pm in the Speakeasy. As always please arrive early as we need to leave very quickly to get the bus to Clifton. As always its bar FTSE and there will be much pool and jukebox abuse, so come along and see your fellow Cliftoners on their own turf.
For future reference to all Cliftoners there will be NO more Clifton pre-meets this term. I believe that some of you are still planning on meeting up in the Point before the social to travel down together but myself and Craig will NOT be there so don't bother waiting for us.
Hi guys.
Welcome back, I hope you had a good Christmas. Here's what we've got planned so far...
Wednesday 9th January - First meeting back after term. At the moment we're planning a regular challenge night to be held in the Speak Easy but until that's sorted we'll be reminding you of what else Nottingham has to offer to those with newly restored bank accounts.
Friday 11th January - Assault. Easing you back into work with a stout kick in the face... and a bit of a dance. Same deal as usual. check the website for more details.

Errr... what else...
We've got two trips coming up this term. The first will be to Liverpool on Saturday February 2nd, most like to the Krazy House. The second will be to a currently undisclosed location on a reasonably stable 8th March. More details will follow.
As there are only two Fridays in March there won't be an Assault (sad noise), but there will be something else (happy noise)! Maybe another AvPvL or something, we need to work it out.

Nottingham Rock Society are running a coach trip to London on 19th January.
It costs £12 for a place on the coach, and entry to the club Sin.
This will leave early in the morning to go shopping in Camden.
The coach will then pick everyone up and take them to the Sin rock club (Stuff purchased on the day can be left on the coach).
The coach will be leaving London at around 2.30am.
There will be a pick up and drop off outside the Glo Bar, and Portland Building.
For those interested, cash is required to secure a place, and we will be signing people up at the social tonight!
See here for further details.
For those that weren't at the Social today, in the next run of merchandise we are offering the opportunity to buy Assault T-shirts!
Here is roughly what they will look like:
EDIT: The design for the back of the Tshirt was changed due to the overall feedback of society members.

We are aiming to charge around £6 for these (they are slightly more expensive than the normal Tshirts due to higher printing costs).
If you would like one of these or any other item of merchandise , let one of the committee know at the next social or drop us an email by clicking on the contact us link at the bottom left of the site.
Please let us know your full name and what size you would like.
We hope to have the order completed very soon after the second term starts so get your orders in as soon as possible please!
Hi guys.
It's been a great first term for the Rock Society with over 330 members joining up making us once again the biggest society in the union! However, term isn't over yet...
Friday December 7th – Christmas Assault. We know that some of you haven't been to an Assault yet, God only knows why. This is your last chance before Christmas to get in on the action. Same deal as usual, except with Spike playing out his favourite fantasy. Intrigued?? Then come down to the Glo Bar this Friday to see what we're on about. All info can be found on the website.
Saturday December 8th – Sheffield Corp trip. This trip sold out in under 24 hours so if you missed out on a place remember to get in early for the first trip of next term! Our trip to the Corp last year has to have been the best by far with excellent music (in my opinion) and some pretty decent drinks offers. For those of you going coming we'll be leaving from outside the Glo Bar at **8pm** please be there 15 minutes early so we can leave on time. We'll head to one of two pubs when we get to Sheffield before heading to the Corp. It's £1 in with your membership card so please remember to bring it. If you forget it you might end up paying a fiver!! We'll be leaving Sheffield at **2.30am**, members of the committee will let you know when it's time to go.
Wednesday December 12th – RockSoc Christmas party. Nottingham's RockSoc are hosting this year's Christmas party at Junction seven. The night will feature DJ's from Nottingham, Trent, and Loughborough Rock Socs as well as an air guitar competition and an inter-society 'boat race'. We'll be heading up there after the meeting, entry is £2 for RockSoc members and £3 for non-members.
Thursday December 13th – Clifton Crusade. Another venture into Clifton campus to take advantage of Bar FooTSiE. We'll be meeting in the Speasy at 7pm and hope to catch the 7:15 bus to Clifton. Come and spend those last few pennies on a Christmas drink!! This will be the last Rock Soc event of the year!
As usual we still hold our weekly socials in the Speak Easy pub on Goldsmith Street every Wednesday from 5pm. It's never to late to come and get involved. After all, you paid to join!
Anyway, that's all the official stuff over with. If for any reason you can't make any of the events planned then have a Merry Christmas and I'll see you in the New Year.
All the best

[quote]Hi,
Do you want to get involved in something that’ll make your CV sparkle, help the local community and be a real laugh?
The Vine Community Centre in Hyson Green wants students help for a day of play and fun for kids in Hyson Green. In Half term (next Feb) unfortunately there’s not much for kids to do in Hyson Green and the Vine Community Centre wants students to get involved and put on some activities in their Community Centre. Its a great community Centre with a massive sports hall and flash kitchen but not enough people to put on activities so it’s just sitting there waiting to be used at the moment!
Now’s your chance to give your ideas for what you think would make a great day. You can get involved as little or as much as you like. From giving an idea to organising a session of fun!
· Can you organise a sports tournament?
· Are you a bit of a Jamie Oliver in the kitchen and want to share your skills?
· Is there a film you’d like to show there?
· Do you want to help with arts and crafts?
· Would you like to organise a bouncy castle, ball pool or something else?!
· Do you have a passion for drumming?

Yes thats right the time has come for us to again invade Clifton Campus in the name of Rock Soc.
On Thursday the 13th of December we're going to meet in the Speak Easy at 7pm and hopefully get the 7.15pm bus to Clifton. Once there we will invade the Point and take full advantage of the drinks prices as Bar FTSE will be on.
This will be the last official RockSoc night of the year so don't miss out by staying at home. Come to Clifton and join the crusade!
Sheffield Corp Trip
It should take about an hour to get there and we'll be going to the Devonshire Cat for a bit before moving on to the Corp. There's also the Nelson which some people are planning on going to as well.
We'll be leaving Sheffield at 2.30am.
We'll start signing up from Wednesday.
For those of you that like electro, alt rock and maybe a bit of indie, you may well enjoy Magenta.
If anyone wants to come along that hasn't been before, I'll be in Speak Easy at about 9pm, and planning to head off at around 10pm.
Entry is £3.
Tomorrow night Birmingham RockSoc are coming to Nottingham. I'll be in the Pit form 8 if anyone wants to join me. We'll be ending up in Rock City later on.
We've pushed the date of the Sheffield trip back to December 8th. This means it doesn't clash with Loughborough's rock night so we can go!!
There are still some Laser Quest spaces left for tonight, so if you want to come along, make sure you bring yourself, your student ID number and £2 along to the Social at Speak Easy tonight early!
Laser quest is currently booked for 7pm - 8pm.
Also it has been brought to our attention that some members are unaware that there is an Assault section of the website.
We'll get a link added to the left hand navigation at some point in the future, but for future reference:
The Assault count down at the top right of the website is a link! Here you can find info on Assault, and set lists for past Assaults!
Check out the Committee Corner for accounts of the committees day to day activities and general insanity.
:P
There are a few of us planning on going to the Bonfire and Fireworks display at the Forest Recreation Ground on 5th November.
It's free to go, and Ben will be in Speak Easy to meet people before hand if you need pointing in the right direction.
Further info:
Funfair 5.30pm - 10.30pm
Small fireworks display 7.15pm
Bonfire lit 7.45pm
Main fireworks display 9pm
That's right, the next trip will be to Sheffield Corp on Saturday December 1st.
Times and prices are currently being sorted. More info will appear when we have it.
Later....
.... hopefully not a lot later...
.... but later.
Jillys has sold out :( better luck next time you fools.
Club entry: FREE
Coach: £4
29 places left
The coach will be leaving the City Student Union (outside the Glo Bar) at 8pm. Please be there about ten minutes before hand.
One of the exec will hand out the free entry flyers on the coach. We should hopefully get to Manchester for around 10. We'll be going to Grand Central before heading to Jilly's for 11.
The coach will be leaving Manchester at 2:30am. Members of the exec will let you know when you need to leave the club so don't worry about that.
Dan says to bring warm clothes and snacks for the journey back!!
If you want to come you can pay for the coach at Assault or on Wednesday night.
Let us not forget, it is the first Clifton Crusade tonight!. and let us also not forget, it is also Bar FooTSiE which means cheap drinks all night long.
We will be meeting in Speak Easy at 7pm and heading on down to Clifton to arrive before 8. There are buses back all night long so don't worry about arranging a taxi.
Hopefully this will reach you all, our mailing list is playing up slightly so I'm having to post the newsletter up here. I hope you had a pleasant week, I spent the majority of last night in The Sal wearing a dressing gown, it was most fun! Anyway, I have some stuff to tell you...
The first trip of the year will be to Jilly's Rock World in Manchester on November 3rd. Entry to the club is FREE meaning all you have to pay for is the coach ride, this is still TBC but shouldn't be much more than £3-4. BARGAIN!! To put your name down for this, head down to the social on Wednesday 24th (yes, I know that's today) in the Speak Easy.
The first Clifton Crusade of the year will be on Thursday 25th. Take this opportunity to venture out to Clifton for fun at Bar FooTSiE. If you're interested, which you should be, we'll be meeting in the Speak Easy before hand at 7pm before heading over to Clifton at around 8. Plastic swords/shields/axes/crucifixes/longbows and Iron Maidens are welcome but not necessary!!!
At this week's social we, your hard working committee (stop laughing), will be DJing 30 minute slots to give you an idea of what sort of stuff we like listening to. I hope you enjoy it. If you don't I'll cry! Actually, I'll just get drunk and ignore you but that's as good as crying for a Northerner! There will be opportunities for you to DJ in the near future so keep an eye out if you're interested! We'll also be selling t-shirts and hoodies for those of you who are still after them. T-shirts are a fiver and hoodies will set you back a minuscule £15. That means for a nice round £20 you can get the full lot, again I say BARGAIN!!
We're knocking the official start of the social back to 5 o'clock in the Speak Easy. Clifton pre-meets are still taking place in The Point. This week they will start at 3pm as usual but from next week onwards they will be starting at 4pm.
If anyone still needs to collect their membership cards you can do so at the social, unless I forgot to do something which is highly likely!! Remember, you paid £5 to join RockSoc but all those lovely discounts we've organised for you mean nothing without your membership card so make sure you come and pick it up!!
Finally. Halloween Assault is this Friday (26th). If you enjoyed the last Assault you'll love this one because we'll all be dressed up so get your costumes ready!! If previous years are anything to go by then my costume will be absolute rubbish, if you think you can beat me... bring it!! :P
Remember to keep checking on here for last minute updates etc.
All the best, see you at the social!!
Northern Ben
We'll be taking names for the Jilly's trip at this week's social (24th). Unfortunately we're still waiting on a few details to be confirmed so that's all I can tell you at the minute.
Stay tuned!
For those of you planning on going to FMR tonight the start time has be pushed back to 10pm due to another event taking place.
After that though it's business as usual.
See ya!
Hello all, if you missed last night's meeting this is what we announced...
Saturday 20th;
There's gonna be a party!! Email a committee member to find out when and where or meet us in the Speasy at 8. I would tell you on here but we don't want gate crashers!!
Friday 19th;
FMR at The Old Angel. This is a metal night playing a whole range of stuff, check out the This Week section for more info. Some of us will be in the Speak Easy around 9 if anyone wants to join us.
Thursday 18th;
Not much happening tonight. I'm off to the Beer Festival though!
Next Meeting - Wednesday 24th;
We'll be taking names for the first trip of the year to Jilly's Rock World in Manchester! The trip will be on November 3rd, times and prices TBC.
Also, we'll be taking names for anyone interested in DJing in the Speak Easy the following week.
Thursday 25th;
The first Clifton Crusade of the year. We always expect the Clifton guys to come to events at city so here's where we repay the favour. Plastic swords are welcome but not necessary!
We'll be meeting in the Speak Easy at 7pm for this.
Also, just a reminder that Clifton pre-meets are being held in the Point on Wednesday afternoons from 3 o'clock.
Friday 26th;
Halloween Assault!!!
Get your costumes ready for two rooms of the best Revolting Rock, Mutant Metal and Putrid Punk... I promise never to do that again!
Same times and prices as last time. Hopefully we'll have the drinks prices sorted out too!
General... stuff;
If you signed up at the first meeting your membership card is ready to be collected. Come and pick it up at the next meeting. Remember, you can't get any of your RockSoc discounts without your membership card.
You can still buy RockSoc merchandise from us! A t-shirt costs £5 and a hoody costs £15. If we don't have the size you're after you can place an order for a run we'll be doing in about a month.
If you've been having problems accessing the forum Allan is in the process of sorting it out now. Also, you may have noticed that the website has been down recently, it's all fixed now!
Right then, I think that's about it!

Kreepers have been nice enough to offer Nottingham and NTU Rock Society Members the standard Kreepers member entry price of £3 for this night only!
I will be in the Speak Easy at 8pm to meet anyone interested before hand.
Hope to see you there!

Hello everyone.
The start of the new year is getting closer, well, sort of. Anyway, I bring dates of things, such wondrous things.
ATM the dates for the freshers fares (as we've been told them) are;
Clifton: Wednesday 3rd October from 10 - 4 in the sports hall.
City: Thursday 4th October from 10 - 4 in Byron House
These fares will be the first opportunity to sign up to the society. Just listen out for the stand playing the best music! If you miss them there'll be plenty of other opportunities to join.
If you're at Brackenhurst you have your own rock society called Brack Rock. We'll all be at the same sort of things though.
The start of term is the 8th of October which means the first meeting of the year will be on the 10th of October in the Speak Easy pub on Goldsmith street (you can't miss it, it's black and yellow!). The 10th is also the start of Alternative Freshers Week, more details to follow...
See ya
NB
Over the next couple of weeks there will be a few changes taking place on the website so please bare with us as things are sorted out.
Also, incase you don't already know the results of the elections are as follows...
President - Allan Sharp
Vice President - Ben Coyle
Secretary - Chris Mead
Treasurer - Dan McLaclan
Fresher Rep - Leon Allen
Clifton President - Craig Hazel
Clifton Secretary - Cameron Phillips
See you in the Autumn.
Northern Ben.
